So here’s something interesting that I didn’t know but actually makes sense. If you brush your teeth too soon after an acidic meal you can actually do more harm than good. Acids can damage your teeth. They start to erode the protective outer layer on the tooth called enamel and can work their way down to the next level called dentin. By brushing your teeth within 30 minutes after an acidic meal you can actually accelerate the process by pushing the acids deeper into the tooth. What to do to prevent this? Drink more water. Drinking water and rinsing your mouth after ingesting acidic foods or having a bout of acid reflux (ie. heartburn) can significantly reduce the damage from the acids. Oh, and acidic foods would be things like diet , spicy food, citrus, tomatoes, coffee, and chocolate.
